Manchester United midfielder emerges as January option for Barcelona

Manchester United could be heading for an active January transfer window on the outgoings front, with several players currently depreciating in value due to their lack of playing time.

There are also a number of players that Erik ten Hag is quite obviously not keen on having and would rather use academy hopefuls.

Donny van de Beek was tipped to be one of the players to gain most from Ten Hag joining the club in 2022 after their time together at Ajax but it has not quite worked out like that just yet.

The Dutchman sustained a serious knee injury halfway through last season and although he featured prominently in this year’s pre-season, he has made just one appearance in the Premier League.

Last week, it was rumoured that Juventus could be the club to offer him an escape route by way of a six-month loan and now, there are reports suggesting that Barcelona could be an option.

That’s according to Catalan outlet Sport, via Get Football News Spain, who say that Van de Beek has emerged as a January option for Xavi Hernandez’s men.

As per the report, Van de Beek and his entourage have signalled that a move to Barcelona would be appealing but there is little detail on whether Barcelona would go through with the deal.

The Spanish giants were said to be one of a host of European superclubs to be monitoring Van de Beek prior to his 2020 move to Old Trafford but a move never materialised back then.

Should he leave United, it’s unlikely that Ten Hag would look to bring a replacement in before sanctioning a sale as he is virtually not an active first-team player.
