The moment all Manchester United fans have been waiting for is edging closer with each passing day and now, it looks like an announcement is finally imminent.
The Glazer family, majority owners of the club since 2005, announced last year they were open to outside investment for the first time.
A long negotiation process followed, with Sir Jim Ratcliffe and Sheikh Jassim both making several offers to acquire 100% of the club.
All bids were rejected out of hand by the Glazers, with the Americans instead deciding on selling a minority stake, with reports in recent months claiming Ratcliffe is confident of coming out on the winning side more than a year after the first announcement was made.
Now, it is being reported that Ratcliffe’s deal to purchase a 25% stake in the club will be confirmed as early as Monday next week.
That’s according to ESPN, who say that although the club will continue to be majority-owned by the Glazer family, Ratcliffe will assume responsibility for the club’s football operations.
Ratcliffe’s entourage have already examined the club’s transfer activity in a bid to be best prepared and not waste money in the way that has contributed to United’s downward spiral in the last 10 years.
As per the report, Ratcliffe’s ownership of French club OGC Nice has been one reason to the delay in announcement but it is not said to have put the deal at risk.
Does anyone care?
What is the problem please.
