Amad Diallo reacts as Sunderland sack manager after 15 months in charge

Manchester United starlet Amad Diallo has sent his best wishes to Tony Mowbray after his sacking as Sunderland manager was confirmed late on Monday evening.

Mowbray, 60, took over at Sunderland in August last year and lasted just 15 months in the job, as per The Telegraph.

The Black Cats came to their decision after watching Mowbray’s side win just two of their past nine league games, slipping to ninth in the Championship, after making the play-offs last season.

Amad played a key role in Sunderland’s run to the play-offs last term and Mowbray would have kept the Ivorian winger had he not had to return to United once his loan deal expired. The young winger was crowned the PFA Championship Fans’ Player of the Year for his performances throughout the season.

The Ivory Coast international arguably played the best football of his career under Mowbray, so we can understand why he was so quick to respond to the news that the coach had been sacked at the Stadium of Light.

It is clear that Sunderland will forever hold a place in Amad’s heart, and it’s no wonder why he has shown gratitude to Mowbray following the news.

Replying to the official club statement from Sunderland, Amad took to X to say: “Thanks boss and good luck.”

Amad has been injured since pre-season and has not been able to prove himself under Erik ten Hag. He will be aiming to recover in time for the second half of the season.

“This was a difficult decision to make,” sporting director Kristjaan Speakman told the official Sunderland website. “But we remain loyal to our ambition and our strategy, and felt that now was the right moment to take this step.

“We are now focused on identifying the right candidate and we will continue to support our coaching team and players throughout the interim period.”
