Four-time Champions League winner and World Cup winner Raphael Varane wants to stay at Manchester United beyond the January transfer window.

The 30-year-old has been linked with a move away from Old Trafford after losing his place in Erik ten Hag’s side.

Varane has started just one of United’s last 11 games as the manager has preferred Jonny Evans, Victor Lindelof and Luke Shaw to partner Harry Maguire at centre-back.

This has led to speculation over Varane’s future, with links to Bayern Munich and the Saudi Pro League circulating in the press, but the Manchester Evening News understands the Frenchman has shown no desire to leave in the winter window.

Previous reports from Sky Germany’s Florian Plettenberg suggested that Bayern are considering a move for the experienced centre-back.

Varane’s performances have dipped this season and his track record with injuries makes it impossible for Ten Hag to settle on a consistent back four.

In turn, Varane wants to fulfil his ambition of playing for United and he will only reconsider his stance if United indicate he is no longer wanted.

Elsewhere in defence, United have been without Lisandro Martinez due to a reoccurring metatarsal injury. The Argentine is not expected to return until the new year.
