Antony is one of many Manchester United players with the spotlight shining bright on him amid troublesome form on the pitch and worrying times off it.

The Brazil international completed a stunning move to the club last year but has struggled to reach the heights expected and currently finds himself out of the team.

Marcus Rashford, who prefers to play on the right, has been preferred over Antony and Facundo Pellistri, the young Uruguayan, has also featured over him.

Antony’s lack of minutes on the pitch has fuelled rumours he may be one of several players leaving the club in the future but now, journalist and transfer specialist Fabrizio Romano has provided an update on the situation.

“They know that it’s going to take time,” Romano told GiveMeSport on Antony. “The season is still long and it’s just two or three months into the season.

“So it will take some time. Obviously for Antony the situation was complicated this summer but now he’s returning to a normal situation.

“So that’s why I think for Antony it is going to take some time, but I’m told that they are not expecting him to go on loan to Flamengo or any of the solutions that we saw in the media and the same for the other players you mentioned (Mason Mount and Sofyan Amrabat).”

Romano has denied any rumours linking Antony with a return to Brazil and in truth, it would not make sense for the 23-year-old at all. Make no mistake about it, Antony is struggling at United but he has proven how good he can be at times.

United invested a wild sum to bring Antony to Old Trafford in 2022 and although that value has likely already plummeted, a loan move to Brazil would slash that price further.

There is still resale value but Ten Hag is definitely still counting on Antony. Jadon Sancho’s continued absence is another reason to keep him as United are short of options in his position.
