Another disappointing result for Manchester United as Erik ten Hag’s side suffered a 1-0 defeat at the hands of Newcastle United.

A lacklustre performance meant Newcastle won the game comfortably, even though the scoreline may suggest it was a tight affair. It was far from that.

Newcastle took the lead through Anthony Gordon in the second half and United failed to respond.

Here are our three observations from the 1-0 defeat against Newcastle.

Better from Onana

All of the talk before the game was on Andre Onana and his two costly mistakes during the week against Galatasaray. He responded well, put in a solid display despite some of the shoddy defending in front of him, and didn’t show any sign of Wednesday’s display impacting him. The Cameroon goalkeeper pulled off a number of impressive saves.

Lack of energy

Some people will put this down to the midweek trip to Istanbul, but I thought Newcastle simply played with more desire than us and that is extremely disappointing. We didn’t track our runners from midfield, leaving Kobbie Mainoo isolating for much of the first half, and proceeded to concede far too many shots.

Rashford looked lost

When it comes to the previous point – lacking energy – we must remember that Marcus Rashford was rested during the week due to suspension. He was awful throughout and offered very little in the final third. It feels like we’re carrying him through games and his demeanour was questionable yet again.

  1. Could any one tell me how many of the present day Man Utd team would make the squads of the premiership & cup winnings teams of the 90s and 2000s Cant think of one sad to say that tells me our recruitment after Fergie has been awful. time for change starting with the present owners cant say their name as it is painfull

  2. From Canada being a MU fan since 1966 losses I can accept with effort and desire. Far too often this year NO DESIRE NO INTENSITY from far too many “star” players. Harry has been “vilified” because of “mistakes” but he has HEART BIG TIME!!! I think he has been our best player since he has been “reinserted” in the lineup. Make him CAPTAIN AGAIN!!

  3. Where to start!?!? From a good performance and result against Everton and albeit an awful result against Galatasary, we looked dangerous – to this shambles!!!
EtH needs to change things every time we lose and players show no fight or are just not good enough. Rashford and Marital were awful and need to be dropped and Dalot is just not a good defender, and he’s a defender!! I think it was a mistake to play Shaw in CD and if even if he did should’ve played Reguilon. I think EtH will be given this season and hopefully Sir Jim will get in ASAP and then he’ll have a decision to make as it’s going to take two miracles to finish in top 4 and to progress in the Champions League – you must all agree that it’s actual torture supporting this current crock of excrement!?!? Laugh or cry….
