The £140m English duo Manchester United plan to pursue after Jim Ratcliffe implements homegrown signings policy

Manchester United have reportedly already begun shortlisting the players they could pursue after Sir Jim Ratliffe’s partial takeover.

As per the Daily Mail, one of the billionaire’s first orders of business, when he completes his 25 per cent buy-in, will be to implement a homegrown transfer policy, prioritising the signings of exciting British talents rather than those abroad.

Their report suggests that Ratcliffe has taken note of Sir Alex Ferguson’s unprecedented successes throughout his illustrious tenure and how his squads over time were always built around a core of British players.

Since the Scot’s departure 10 years ago, United have made countless major signings in an attempt to put the club back on the pedestal Ferguson left them on, however, only seven of these additions have been Brits.

Ratcliffe eyeing swoop for highly-rated England stars

As such, the club have taken to the drawing board and started a shortlist of potential new reinforcements under Ratcliffe, who will take full control over sporting matters, shifting the Glazer family into more backseat roles.

Two mooted names to kickstart a new era in M16 are England stars Marc Guehi of Crystal Palace and Ivan Toney of Brentford, the latter of which will be counting down the days until his eight-month ban for breaching betting rules concludes on January 16.

The Sun states that acquiring both the defender and striker won’t come easy, as not only are there other Premier League clubs in hot pursuit of their services, but a double-swoop could cost as much as £140 million. It’d certainly be one way to make a statement in the transfer window!
