Sir Jim Ratcliffe set to prioritise homegrown talent at Manchester United

Manchester United fans are waiting for Sir Jim Ratcliffe to acquire a 25% stake at the club. The British billionaire will then take control of football operations and he is expected to reshuffle the recruitment team.

As well as that, the Daily Mail believes Ratcliffe is set to instruct United’s recruitment team to prioritise homegrown talent in attempt to get the club back to the top of English football.

The Ineos chief is eager to see more of a domestic presence within the core of the team at United. That means we could see less focus on the foreign transfer markets.

This means we will see change at Old Trafford because the club has signed just seven homegrown players since Sir Alex Ferguson retired in 2013. They include Luke Shaw, Harry Maguire, Aaron Wan-Bissaka, Daniel James, Jadon Sancho, Mason Mount and Jonny Evans.

Sami Mokbel’s report reads: “And well-placed sources have indicated that Ratcliffe, who saw United dominate English football under Ferguson with a core contingent of British players, wants to reinforce a domestic flavour to United’s international squad provided, of course, they are good enough.”

It hardly means that United will stop buying foreign talent, but we could see more emphasis put on young English talent in the future.

One English player linked with United in the summer was Crystal Palace centre-back Marc Guehi, however, the Daily Mail believes the Reds are among the clubs closely monitoring Brentford striker Ivan Toney ahead of the next two transfer windows.

However, our sources believe Arsenal are leading the race for Toney.

Toney isn’t the only English striker to attract attention from United after we missed out on Harry Kane in the summer.
