Player ratings: Andre Onana woeful as United blow two-goal lead and remain bottom of Group A

Manchester United blew a two-goal lead against Galatasaray – the second time they’ve done so against the Turkish side – to draw 3-3 and drop two crucial points at Rams Park.

The Red Devils’ Champions League qualification to the knockouts is now a distant dream and should Copenhagen overturn Bayern Munich this evening, United will be knocked out of the competition by 10pm, with their fate now out of their hands.

Erik ten Hag’s side sit rock bottom of Group A on just four points after five matches played and they’ll certainly enter their last fixture as the underdogs when they take on Bayern at Old Trafford on December 12.

Player ratings

Andre Onana – 1

Conceded two free-kicks from Hakim Ziyech and the second was an absolute howler. Potentially cost United progression.

Aaron Wan-Bissaka – 5

Assisted Scott McTominay for the third but perhaps could’ve done more to stop the counters.

Harry Maguire – 5

Provided a goalline clearance in the first half.

Victor Lindelof – 4

Preferred over Raphael Varane this time out… for some reason.

Luke Shaw – 6

Just his second game back from injury and he displayed glimpses of his best.

Scott McTominay – 6

Ran his socks off and got himself on the scoresheet again.

Sofyan Amrabat – 4

Will likely be losing his place to Kobbie Mainoo for the foreseeable.

Antony – 7

One of the more promising showings from the winger.

Bruno Fernandes – 8

Produced a superb finish but gave away a foul that led to Galatasaray’s free-kick and, subsequently, goal.

Alejandro Garnacho – 7

Another delightful finish will have fans hopeful of how high Garnacho’s ceiling is. Was quick to wind up the opposition fans again and unfortunately, it came back to bite him in the behind.

Rasmus Hojlund – 5

A quiet one for the Dane.

  1. It’s high time EtH considered rotating his goal keepers before things worsen.van Gaal & Mourinho successfully employed this model with Romero starring in cup matches while de Gea played in league games. It kept both keepers relatively happy with the game time they were getting & created a competitive environment where either of the 2 knew any slip up would result in the other being slotted in.I don’t think it’s a coincidence that de Gea’s decline started when Ole abandoned this model & de Gea became the main man in both cup & league games.Onana is struggling & rotating would ease the pressure on him as well as create some level of competition that can benefit all.Altay Bayindir should be given a chance even in cup games while EtH sticks with Onana in league games as a starting point.
