Kobbie Mainoo has been putting in a spirited shift in his first Manchester United outing of the 2023/2024 campaign.
The 18-year-old’s start to the term was delayed after he sustained an injury in the pre-season tour. In the later stages of his recovery, he has been getting back to full fitness with the under-21s.
Now, much to the delight of the United faithful, Mainoo is back in the matchday squad. There are high expectations of the Carrington graduate and currently, he’s one of the hottest prospects the Reds have to offer.
After Alejandro Garnacho opened the scoring in the fourth minute with a scintillating overhead kick – reminiscent of that Wayne Rooney finish many moons ago – Everton have been grafting to try and find an equaliser.
Sustained pressure from the Toffees led to an almost-leveller; Andre Onana managed to get a hand to Dominic Calvert-Lewin’s shot and Mainoo was there to provide a crucial goalline clearance from the follow-up.
