Antoine Griezmann breaks silence amid Manchester United links

Antoine Griezmann has been one of the surprise names to be linked with a move to Manchester United in the new year.

However, the Frenchman has broken his silence on the reports and admits he wants to become a ‘legend’ at Atletico Madrid rather than moving to pastures new.

Recent media reports in Spain suggested United were considering a swoop for the France international. The claims hinted that a deal for Griezmann could cost as much as €25 million, which isn’t enough to break the bank with Sir Jim Ratcliffe set to arrive at the club as a minority shareholder.

Speaking to Marca, as quoted by Fabrizio Romano, Griezmann has dismissed speculation about him leaving Atletico Madrid: “I’ve to earn myself to be a legend in this club. That’s my mission.

“By 2024 I want to bring joy to the fans and some title for Atletico. It would be a dream.”

I don’t think anyone took the Griezmann links serious. He’s 32-years-old and United need to be signing younger talent.

Girona are currently on top of La Liga, with Atleti sat in fourth placed, but anything could happen in the Spanish top division this season.

There’s still a lot of football to play but Griezmann won’t be planning on a switch to Old Trafford anytime soon. That ship surely sailed years ago.
