UEFA confirm Marcus Rashford’s Champions League suspension fate after red card vs Copenhagen

UEFA have announced that Manchester United’s Marcus Rashford will serve a one-game suspension following the straight red card he was shown against Copenhagen.

The forward was sent off after he lunged into a challenge, while trying to control the ball, on Elias Jelert and his studs connected with the Dane’s ankle. A lengthy VAR review ultimately culminated in Rashford walking down the tunnel.

Supporters were initially concerned that he would be dealt a three-game ban for the foul, however, it has been confirmed today (Friday) that he will miss next Wednesday’s trip to face Galatasaray, before returning in time to take on Bayern Munich in the final group-stage game.

United’s European woes

United sit rock bottom of Group A on three points, having sustained three losses and picked up one victory. They have a mountain to climb if they want any chance of progressing to the knockouts and will be relying heavily on their top goalscorer in the competition, Rasmus Hojlund, who is currently in a race to get back to full fitness.
