Altay Bayindir made Manchester United history when he signed on a £4.2 million deal from Fenerbache on deadline day.
The 25-year-old was quickly sought following Dean Henderson’s permanent exit to Crystal Palace, leaving a significant void in the goalkeeping department.
Andre Onana had already completed his move to replace David de Gea but with veteran Tom Heaton sidelined with an injury over the summer, the club was forced into acquiring an alternative to provide coverage.
Surprisingly, Bayindir is yet to make his debut between the sticks, with Erik ten Hag opting against deploying him in cup competitions thus far. Amidst the current speculation regarding the extent and severity of Onana’s injury, Bayindir could be in line to make his maiden outing at Goodison Park on Sunday.
Bayindir reacts to United switch
When he does so, he’ll become the first-ever Turkish international to play for United and is currently the first to have been a member of the squad, which undoubtedly brings a great sense of pride to him and his family.
Reflecting on how it feels to make history this year, he told MUTV: “It’s very nice, it’s a very good feeling. I came from Turkey and I’m playing for a big club now, and everything is very well, very good for me. If we are winning, we are happy.”
“[A] little bit different,” he said, regarding the transition from Turkey to England. “But English food – I like it! I have tried and I like English food but I say it’s a little bit different from Turkish food. I’m learning about everything; about food, about Manchester. Now for me, everything is good, I like this city, I like the people, everybody [is] positive when I’m talking, when I’m going outside, everyone is smiling and speaking positive. It’s a very good thing for me!”
