Victor Lindelof became the unlikely hero on Saturday afternoon when the Sweden international scored the winning strike in a must-win game against Luton Town.
Erik ten Hag’s men have now won four of the last five Premier League games and are slowly climbing the ranks domestically despite the disappointing European campaign.
Luton held Liverpool to a draw last week and made the trip to Old Trafford as a potential banana skin but United found a way past the newly-promoted side, with Lindelof smashing home an unlikely winner 15 minutes into the second half.
The defender, who scored his first goal since the 2020/21 season, has now delivered his reaction to a rare goal in front of the Stretford End.
“I don’t score many goals and when I do it is fun,” Lindelof is quoted as saying by the BBC.
“The most important thing was getting the points and thankfully we got that today.
“I thought we played well in the first half today. We kept the ball and we were patient. We created chances as well. After we scored we dropped down a little bit in level and that is what we need to improve – to keep controlling the game.
“It is about getting the results. We need to stick together and do our thing. Hopefully, we can play better in the future as well.”
United have been far from convincing recently but as Lindelof points out, getting results is by far the most important thing right now and that’s what United are doing.
Four wins from the last five is a big improvement on the five games that preceded that run and Ten Hag will be aiming to keep that form up in two weeks when domestic football is resumed.
By that time, he will also hope to have welcomed some players back from injury as first-team regulars are dropping like flies, with Rasmus Hojlund and Christian Eriksen both falling victim to injury against Luton.
