Five things to watch out for: Manchester United vs Luton Town

Fresh from another disappointing defeat in the Champions League, Manchester United will attempt to return to winning ways when they welcome Luton Town to Old Trafford on Saturday.

The Reds currently sit eight in the Premier League, six points adrift of the top four, while the Hatters are positioned 17th with goal difference keeping them out of the relegation zone.

Drama has followed year with nine defeats since the beginning of the season. With that in mind, we’ve managed less wins (8) and that tells you everything you need to know about our form going into this weekend’s game.

Without further ado, here are five things to watch out for at Old Trafford on Saturday:

Defensive selection

Erik ten Hag has big decisions to make at the back after delivering the news that Jonny Evans is ruled out for the game. That should see Raphael Varane return to the line-up, but the Frenchman performed dismally when he came off the bench against Copenhagen on Wednesday. The Dutchman may have Victor Lindelof available, though the Swede is hardly an upgrade on Varane…

Meanwhile, Diogo Dalot isn’t covering himself in glory at the moment. Surely it is time to bring Sergio Reguilon back in at left-back?

Does Antony get overlooked again?

Antony has been an underwhelming signing since his arrival from Ajax and there’s serious questions that need to be asked about his place in the team. However, I don’t think Ten Hag will give up on him that quickly. I’d like to see Alejandro Garnacho start again tomorrow and I wouldn’t be so quick to drop Marcus Rashford from the team.

Luton Town leaking goals

The Hatters are yet to keep a clean sheet in 11 Premier League matches, conceding 21 goals, so I hope Rasmus Hojlund is reading this. That said, they’ve scored seven goals in the final 15 minutes of games this season.

Andros Townsend enjoys a goal at Old Trafford

Townsend is seeking to emulate Darren Bent and Jay Rodriguez in becoming the third player to score a Premier League goal at Old Trafford for more than two clubs. He scored against us during his time at Everton and Crystal Palace.

Marcus Rashford milestone

Rashford is set to become the youngest player to make 250 Premier League appearances for Manchester United at the age of 26 years and 11 days. He takes the record from Ryan Giggs, beating him by 156 days.
