Manchester United add Brazilian stalwart to centre-back list but will face competition from Chelsea and Spurs

Manchester United have reportedly added Juventus’ Gleison Bremer to their centre-back shortlist, as per Italian outlet Calciomercato

The Red Devils look adamant about adding a new defender to their ranks in the January transfer window, with both first-choice centre-halves, Lisandro Martinez and Raphael Varane, falling victim to injury woes in the early stages of the campaign. The Argentine is not expected back before Christmas and his return could even be prolonged until the New Year.

Numerous targets have been identified, judging by the reports circulating the club, but formal approaches may need to wait until the ownership situation has been solidified; Sir Jim Ratcliffe is set to acquire a minority stake and would immediately begin overseeing footballing operations, including transfer business.

Bremer, 26, is on the radar of United, Chelsea and Tottenham Hotspur. Given Brazil’s quality in the backline, he isn’t a regular starter in the national team and only made his debut in September 2022,  but did make the squad for last year’s World Cup.

He is contracted to the Serie A outfit until 2027 and it is believed that he is in talks over a new and improved deal.
