F1’s Toto Wolff would consider joining Sir Jim Ratcliffe in Manchester United buy-in

Mercedes Formula 1 boss Toto Wolff has left the door open to joining Sir Jim Ratcliffe by investing in Manchester United.

The Glazer family announced a strategic review almost 12 months ago and it looks like Ratcliffe will be successful in his quest to acquire a 25% stake in Manchester United for a reported £1.25bn.

As a result, the British billionaire will have significant say in sporting matters at Old Trafford, such as replacing the likes of Richard Arnold and introducing actual football experts to the club’s structure.

Ratcliffe, 71, also owns a third of the Mercedes F1 team which means he already has a working relationship with Wolff.

Speaking to the PA news agency ahead of this weekend’s Brazilian Grand Prix in Sao Paulo, Wolff hinted he would be open to joining Ratcliffe’s project at Old Trafford.

“Jim has shared the trajectory with me,” Wolff said (via Irish Examiner). “I very much respect his values and we trust each other. If we felt it would make sense to be part of the investment group then I would certainly look at it.”

The Austrian billionaire added: “Jim and Manchester United is a love story because he is born there. Our personal relationship is strong and with Ola Kallenius, they call us the Three Amigos because we live in the no bulls*** world.”
