Marcus Rashford apologised for partying after Manchester derby defeat

Erik ten Hag says Marcus Rashford’s post-derby trip to Chinawhite nightclub was “unacceptable”, but the manager confirmed there was an apology earlier this week.

With just one goal in 14 games for United this season, it would be fair to say Rashford has not replicated his form from last season and the pressure is building on Rashford every time the team drops points.

It didn’t help his cause when the forward was spotted out partying hours after his side lost the Manchester derby at Old Trafford. A 3-0 defeat, too.

In his defence, Rashford was celebrating his birthday, but they could have done that someone more private to avoid all of these headlines.

“Yes, I am aware of it, I spoke with him about it,” Ten Hag told reporters on Friday, as quoted by Sky Sports. “It’s unacceptable. I told him. He apologised. And that’s it. For the rest it’s an internal matter.”

A journalist at Ten Hag’s press conference followed up with a question about Rashford’s form and if lapses in concentration mean he’s not matching the standards being set.

The manager added: “Your suggestion is not right. He’s fitting in [with Ten Hag’s policies]. He’s very motivated to put things right. I know which effort he’s putting in. He’s totally with us.

“He makes a mistake but it doesn’t say he isn’t fitting in. I see him every day, on the training, what he’s doing, I know. Make one mistake. But also, off the pitch what he’s doing, how he lives and I’m sure he’s doing everything right to help the team to perform and to let us win.”

United take on Fulham in the early kick-off today. Hopefully, we can secure three points and Rashford gets back on the scoresheet.
