Erik ten Hag has provided an insight into the mood in the Manchester United dressing room following two consecutive 3-0 defeats.
As you’d expect given the Red Devils’ current, concerning situation, the leaks have been out in full force, with some suggesting that no players in the squad hold a close relationship with the manager due to his ‘perceived lack of charisma’, as per The Athletic.
Their report also states that earlier this season, when Casemiro was hooked at half-time against Brentford due to the Dutchman wanting to “play more football”, the decision caused unrest inside the dressing room.
Similarly, Harry Maguire was reportedly ‘bruised’ by the club’s attempts to shift him over the summer; they accepted a £30 million bid from West Ham United before the deal ultimately collapsed and the Englishman stayed put.
After overseeing United’s worst start to a season in 61 years, rumours have begun circulating suggesting that Ten Hag may not survive the campaign in the dugout. The board have a shortlist of potential replacements drawn up in case the situation worsens.
Ten Hag rebuffs reports of turmoil
Still, amidst all the madness, Ten Hag has assured that the general feeling inside Old Trafford is positive.
He said in today’s pre-match press conference, via Manchester Evening News: “They [players] are positive. They want to put this right and we know the standards here. We have to match them every day, we’ve had two big setbacks, but we’ll fight back. The dressing room is strong, the staff are strong and this manager is strong.”
