Manchester United have announced the three Reds in contention to win October’s Player of the Month award.

Across the month, United oversaw three wins and two defeats in a mix of Premier League and Champions League action.

Harry Maguire’s resurgence has seen him receive plaudits in recent weeks and he has quickly repaid the trust instilled in him by Erik ten Hag, with the manager opting to start his former club captain in four consecutive matches.

Bar Sunday’s loss to City, Maguire has been in exceptional form and proven a considerable amount of his doubters wrong. Without his goal last Tuesday against Copenhagen, United may as well have kissed goodbye to their hopes of European progression.

Similarly, Andre Onana’s last-gasp heroics in the Champions League ensured United claimed all three points versus the Danish outfit, with his penalty save to deny Jordan Larsson being the final play of the must-win group-stage clash.

After a somewhat problematic start to life between the sticks at Old Trafford, Onana now looks back to his world-class best and hopefully, his confidence continues to grow as the games go on.

Even if the derby defeat, his numerous stops prevented the scoreline from being a humiliating one and he was undoubtedly United’s best player on the day.

McTominay’s heroics inspired Bees win

Scott McTominay inspired a late comeback against Brentford on October 7 when he scored two injury-time goals to clinch all three points in emphatic fashion at Old Trafford. The following game, he fired in the opener against Sheffield United, which helped the Reds on their way to a crucial win on the road.

He has been granted more of a starting role in Casemiro’s absence, so it’ll be interesting to see how his game time differs when the Brazillian returns.
