MUTV pundits credit improving Manchester United star

A brilliant strike from Diogo Dalot secured three points for Manchester United in a 2-1 win over Sheffield United on Saturday.

The match was won in the second-half thanks to a strike from Dalot as he hit the back of the net with a cracker from distance.

That said, it wasn’t just the goal from Dalot that led to compliments for the Portugal international over the weekend. His overall performance earned plaudits from pundits working for MUTV.

On Matchday Review, former Manchester United academy goalkeeper Paul Woolston hailed Dalot for his work rate and steady signs of improvement.

Woolston said (via United In Focus): “It’s great to see, he’s definitely got an engine on him. It’s the runs sometimes when he doesn’t get the ball he’s still committing players, asking questions, for someone else to get on the end of it.

“To see his work rate, his wanting to be there, he’s up and down the pitch all day long. He’s a different player since he came back from his loan away, he’s come back and keeps improving, he’s nowhere near the finished article yet but the improvement he’s made is massive.”

Co-pundit and former United winger Sammy McIlroy added: “He’s definitely improved his performances since start of the season, and since he came. He’s definitely finding the way United want to play. He’s got great feet, can play both sides of the park, he’s doing very well at the moment.”

While it could be argued that Dalot wouldn’t be a starter if Aaron Wan-Bissaka was fit, I think we can also take time to appreciate the different abilities both players assess.

Dalot is one of the first names on the team sheet currently due to injuries in defence. He has a big week ahead of him with games against Copenhagen and Man City coming up.
