Galatasaray have been fined €51, 500 for their fans’ behaviour during the Champions League group-stage game at Old Trafford on October 3.
Manchester United oversaw an unfortunate 3-2 defeat on the night despite Rasmus Hojlund’s scintillating performance, however, the result wasn’t the only thing taking over the headlines following the game; thousands of away supporters were spotted in home areas of the stadium, causing fury among the Old Trafford faithful over the havoc they caused.
The club have since admitted that around 2,000 Galatasaray fans were admitted into home sections – the same allocation that they were granted in the official away end.
Galatasaray fined by UEFA
UEFA have been conducting their own investigation into the acts committed by the Turkish side’s following support – which included tearing down the iconic Sir Matt Busby banner that adorns the East Stand – earlier this month and has found them guilty of four separate breaches.
Galatasaray have been fined €30,000 for throwing objects, as well as a one-match ban for their away supporters – suspended for two years – over the same offence, €3,500 for lighting fireworks, €8,000 for the damages caused and an additional €10,000 for crowd disturbance.
