Manchester United faced with fresh injury concern in midfield after internationals

Sofyan Amrabat missed Morocco’s 3-0 win against Liberia as the Atlas Lions closed out the Africa Cup of Nations qualifying campaign on a high.

Not only will Morocco host the next AFCON, Walid Regregui’s side also finished top of Group K.

However, they got across the line without the help of Manchester United loanee Sofyan Amrabat. The midfielder, who joined the Reds on a season-long loan in the summer, was left out of the squad for last week’s friendly win over Ivory Coast.

According to Alayam24, Amrabat’s attempts to get back in the team for Tuesday’s win over Liberia failed due to injury.

Regragui told reporters ahead of the game that he was well aware of Amrabat’s situation, but ultimately kept his cards close to his chest.

“We will not hide behind absences, because we knew about Amrabat’s absence before the start of the camp. Amrabat can get injured at some point. We must find a solution and alternative, and we have players capable of filling the void that Sofyan will leave,” he said, as quoted by Almaghreb 24.

The problem we have with the report is that it’s so vague it doesn’t mention the nature of the injury. There’s nothing to suggest how serious it is and whether he sustained it whilst training with Morocco or playing for United.

Erik ten Hag will hope it’s not serious because United travel to Sheffield United at the weekend. The manager will be asked about the fitness of his players and we hope a few that have been out injured will return in time to face the Blades.

As for Amrabat, it doesn’t look good but I’m sure United will run fitness tests when he returns to Manchester.

More when we have it.
