Sir Jim Ratcliffe gains edge over Qatar for Manchester United

Following months of uncertainty, the Manchester United takeover process could be reaching a key phase.

According to reliable outlet Bloomberg, British billionaire Sir Jim Ratcliffe has emerged as the frontrunner to strike a deal with the Glazer family over Manchester United.

It is believed the co-owner of INEOS revised their offer to give the global chemical company an edge over Sheikh Jassim bin Hamad Al-Thani’s proposal.

Ratcliffe is in talks with the Glazer family and Raine Group over the structure of a deal, as per sources close to matter.

However, even though deliberations are ongoing, nothing has been set in stone. There’s no guarantee that these talks will result in a transaction. That said, the report states Ratcliffe may end up with an initial stake of roughly 25% in United, with such a deal valuing the club at more than £5 billion ($6.1 billion).

In turn, the Glazers view Ratcliffe’s bid for a minority stake as more attractive than Qatar’s offer.

Furthermore, Bloomberg add that United’s board is set to discuss the latest proposal at a meeting in the coming days.

If Ratcliffe is successful with such a proposal, it means we won’t be getting rid of the Glazers for another while. It doesn’t sit right with me that they will likely remain control over how the club is run.

Surely Ratcliffe isn’t that stupid?
