Manchester United return to Premier League action tomorrow afternoon against Brentford. Kick-off is at 3pm.
The Red Devils have overseen their worst start to a season in 34 years, so realistically, the only way to go from here is up. Right?
Back-to-back home defeats have left the club rock bottom of their Champions League group on zero points and 10th-placed in the league table on nine points. From this point on, wins are non-negotiable.
Injuries have of course been a mitigating factor in United’s form; 16 players across the squad have all missed at least one game due to fitness or illness, with Victor Lindelof the only one to be available throughout – though Erik ten Hag is reluctant to use his team selection issues as an excuse for recent results.
How Brentford fare
On the other hand, Brentford have tasted victory just once this term against Fulham on August 19. Since then, they’ve picked up four draws and two losses, with the absence of Ivan Toney proving to be a major debilitating issue.
Their last outing saw them tie 1-1 with Nottingham Forest at The City Ground and prior to that, they sustained an unexpected 3-1 defeat to Everton at home.
After this game, club action is put on pause for a two-week-long international break, so leaving things on a positive note is crucial for United.
