Erik ten Hag has reiterated his backing in Andre Onana after the goalkeeper made another blunder against Galatasaray.
The Cameroonian played a woeful pass straight to the feet of a pressing Dries Mertens, which led Casemiro to recklessly slide tackle the forward and consequently receive a red card after being shown a second yellow. A spot-kick was then awarded, though it was fired wide by Mauro Icardi.
That didn’t matter too much though, as Galatasaray retook the lead just moments later when Icardi avenged his miss with an 81st-minute winner. United were unable to respond and saw out a second straight defeat in the Champions League.
Numerous Reds have been – and will continue to be in the coming days – heavily criticised for their performances. For Onana, it comes after an incredibly shaky start to life at Old Trafford, and pressure continues to mount on his shoulders.

He has the full support of the manager though, as Ten Hag said post-match (via Hayters): “We are happy with our goalkeeping group – definitely with Andre. And Andre, come on, he was in one Champions League semi-final, he was in last season’s final, so he has the capabilities to be one of the best goalkeepers in the world. He has showed that, and he will do.
“We have already seen in games his great capabilities,” the manager continued. “Also his personality after he makes a mistake. He will bounce back. I’m sure he will do in the coming games as well.”
