Manchester United player ratings: Hojlund the only positive as Reds capitulate at Old Trafford

Manchester United fell to a humiliating 3-2 defeat at Old Trafford this evening in their second Champions League group-stage game.

Back-to-back defeats in Europe for the Red Devils, as well as six losses in all competitions so far this season. When it rains, it just has to pour, doesn’t it?

United sit rock bottom of Group A on zero points, and progression to the next stage of the competition just got significantly harder with the side blowing a chance to claim all three points on home turf.

United player ratings

Andre Onana – 0

Unsure if it’s a complete lack of confidence from how his United career has begun or what, but Erik ten Hag must be looking favourably towards Altay Bayindir in the coming weeks.

Diogo Dalot – 1

Booked yet again and couldn’t handle Wilfried Zaha in the slightest.

Raphael Varane – 2

Defence was torn apart.

Victor Lindelof – 2

See above.

Sofyan Amrabat – 4

Passing was decent at times. Feels harsh to be too critical considering he’s being played out of position and nobody else on the backline is doing their job either.

Christian Eriksen – 3

Was slightly creative when he came on and set up a few chances.

Casemiro – 0

Third red card. Gave away a penalty. Off the pace. Sluggish.

Mason Mount – 4

Looked promising in the first half but was evidently desperate for his first goal at the club – numerous shots were wild.

Bruno Fernandes – 3

Can be a midfield maestro on some nights and others, a midfield mess.

Marcus Rashford – 4

Assisted Rasmus Hojlund but wasted a clear-cut chance that should’ve been a goal. Decision-making is woeful sometimes when you consider his age and experience at the top level.

Rasmus Hojlund – 9

The only positive anyone could take from this game. He’s finding his feet and oversaw his best performance in a red shirt by netting a brace. If he keeps it up, he’ll rack up some serious numbers.

A huge shame that his brace will be overshadowed by the final scoreline.
