Erik ten Hag gives verdict on Manchester United’s start to the season

Erik ten Hag faced the press after his side fell to yet another defeat in the Premier League this season – the fourth time in just seven games this season.

It is the first time Manchester United have lost four of their opening seven games and Ten Hag is now under increasing pressure to turn things around.

United’s poor start to the season was unexpected but the worrying aspect is that it does not look like the Reds are any closer to turning a corner in what could be a very long campaign.

The latest defeat came at Old Trafford – the second in the league this season – when Crystal Palace made the trip to the Theatre of Dreams for the second time in four days.

Roy Hodgson’s side were easily dispatched in the League Cup but proved to be stubborn opposition days later when the legendary Englishman sealed a fifth consecutive league trip to Old Trafford without a defeat.

Speaking after the game, Ten Hag was pressed on United’s start to the season and the Dutchman admitted that they have not been good enough but urged everyone to stick together in a bid to find a way out.

“It’s a bad start. We have to catch up and do better,” Ten Hag is quoted as saying by the official Manchester United website.

“This is not good enough. Of course, it’s frustrating for everyone, especially the fans. It’s frustrating but for us, as well, the players and for me. We have to stay together, fight together and get better and make sure we get improvement.”

As the manager points out, it’s another disappointing day but there is nothing that can be done to change it. Instead, regroup and improve on the mistakes made against Palace.

United will now await the visit of Turkish giants Galatasaray as Champions League football returns to Old Trafford for the first time since Ralf Rangnick’s reign in the second half of the 2021/22 season.

“We can’t change this anymore. Only what we can change is the future and that’s Tuesday’s game,” Ten Hag added.

  1. Can get 6-1 on Cimbom victory. Hate to write this, but that’s where my tenner’s going.
If United are going to insist on being crap, I can at least make a few bob for consolation alcohol!
Prefer to lose me money, of course.
