Antony will return to the Manchester United squad while still being investigated over allegations of domestic violence.
It was announced on September 10 that the winger would oversee a period of absence to deal with the accusations made against him in his native Brazil.
Antony flew to England this week to attend an interview with police, who have not placed the player under any restrictions.
He is also yet to be charged in either the UK or Brazil, so United have opted to bring him back to the fold while the authorities continue trying to establish the circumstances around the allegations.
The club released the following statement on Friday, September 29: “Since allegations were first made in June, Antony has co-operated with police inquiries in both Brazil and the UK, and he continues to do so.
“As Antony’s employer, Manchester United has decided that he will resume training at Carrington, and be available for selection, while police inquiries proceed. This will be kept under review pending further developments in the case.
“As a club, we condemn acts of violence and abuse. We recognise the importance of safeguarding all those involved in this situation, and acknowledge the impact these allegations have on survivors of abuse.”
The allegations against Antony
Gabriela Cavallin claims that the 23-year-old assaulted her on more than one occasion, which includes Antony headbutting and punching his former partner. It led to her needing surgery and treatment, as per the BBC.
Their report adds: “Two further allegations followed when Rayssa de Freitas and Ingrid Lana each claimed Antony assaulted them in 2022, which he denies.
“Lana, a 33-year-old banker, claimed in an interview with Brazil’s Record TV that she hit her head when “pushed against a wall” by Antony at his house in Manchester in October last year.”
Antony has strongly – and repeatedly – denied any wrongdoing.
Erik ten Hag confirmed in his pre-match press conference this afternoon that the forward will train with the squad over the weekend but will not feature in Saturday’s game against Crystal Palace.
