Erik ten Hag has praised Sergio Reguilon for settling in quickly at Manchester United despite the testing circumstances.
The Spaniard has made two appearances for the club since joining on deadline day after completing a loan switch from Tottenham Hotspur, where he was considered third choice left-back.
However, in the defeats against Brighton and Bayern Munich, Reguilon was one of United’s best performers. That may mean nothing since the team conceded seven goals in those matches, but he’s definitely making an effort.
It hasn’t gone unnoticed by Erik ten Hag or the fans that left the Allianz Arena feeling disappointed on Wednesday night. At one stage in the second half, Reguilon made an incredible effort to get across the pitch to make a tackle before swiftly returning to the left-back position.
Speaking to MUTV (via ManUtd.com), Ten Hag said: “We’re very happy with him and it is not easy to [be] coming in [to]a team you don’t know. And there was less preparation.
“Of course, he’s experienced. [A] very good base he has but then still to know our rules and we didn’t have the time to teach them, to coach them in training or in the preparation time in like a pre-season. But he had to go straight in and he did well.”
Hopefully Reguilon can record his first win in a United shirt tonight when the Reds travel to Turf Moor to face Burnley.
There has not been any update on Luke Shaw or Tyrell Malacia, so the manager is still playing the waiting game on that front.
