(Video) Osasuna face La Liga punishment after singing anti-Greenwood chant

Mason Greenwood joined La Liga side Getafe on a season-long loan earlier this month and the former United youngster has now made his maiden appearance for the Spanish outfit.

Greenwood has not appeared in a Red shirt since January 2022 following allegations made against him but after a lengthy legal process, all charges against the 21-year-old were dropped.

The news of Greenwood being cleared of the charges came in the middle of Erik ten Hag’s first season at the club but the decision was made to wait until the summer to decide his future.

Eventually, after initially deciding on a plan to reintegrate Greenwood, it was announced by the club that all parties had mutually agreed to part ways.

Greenwood is still under contract at United but will be spending the next nine months with Getafe but he has not received the best welcome in his new league.

He made his debut for Getafe earlier on Sunday, coming on as a 77th-minute substitute in their 3-2 home win over Osasuna. The away supporters certainly made their feelings known on the day, with a spectator capturing the travelling fans chanting ‘Greenwood, die’, as seen below.

After the game, it was reported by The Athletic that Osasuna are now facing punishment from La Liga as a consequence of the abusive chants aimed at Greenwood.

Greenwood is under contract at United for two more years and there is no obligation or option to buy at the end of his loan at Getafe.
