Ligue 1 star comments on supposed Manchester United interest

The transfer window closed last week but Manchester United are still being linked to a host of players, with the club possibly making moves to strengthen the squad further in the upcoming January window.

United experienced a chaotic final 24 hours of the transfer window, signing as many as four players on the last day. At least three of the signings that day were, however, due to injuries and/or a lack of cover in some areas.

Erik ten Hag was dealt the heavy blow of losing Tyrell Malacia to a long-term injury before pre-season and it looked like the Dutchman had accepted that going into the season with just Luke Shaw and possibly Diogo Dalot as a backup would suffice.

But when Shaw also sustained a serious injury, the Reds immediately entered the market for a left-back as Sergio Reguilon joined on loan.

Dalot is expected to feature on the left regularly this season but that leaves Ten Hag short of options at right-back. United have been linked with several right-backs over the last 12 months, with question marks still looming over the future of Aaron Wan-Bissaka.

The latest reports have supposedly linked the Old Trafford club with a move for AS Monaco right-back Vanderson, who has now commented on the links.

“It’s cool,” he told Trivela, via the Manchester Evening News.

“Knowing that even if it’s nothing definitive, knowing that the work is recognised, even if it’s not so official, but it’s cool. The biggest clubs in the world, everyone knows. It’s great to know that your name is mentioned with big clubs.”

Vanderson is tied to a long-term contract at Monaco and he also prefers to play further up the pitch – a three-at-the-back system would suit him more.

His strengths are in the final third and although that’s a contrast to the full-backs Ten Hag has at his disposal, it’s unlikely that United will be making a move anytime soon for the Brazilian.
