Manchester United miss MLS opportunity in the United States

Manchester United’s trip to the United States raised questions about Mason Mount and Jadon Sancho but also saw a happy camp of players under a manager in full control.

There are still questions about what role Mount will play – because it changed depending on who else was available in midfield. He can sit deep alongside Casemiro and also push further forward with Bruno Fernandes.

Furthermore, Sancho played the role as a false 9 with some promising signs. The goal he scored against Arsenal proves that as the England international burst on to a through ball, holding off Gabriel Magalhaes in a show of pace and thrust that felt a new development, then finding the back of the net.

United spent over two weeks travelling around North America, but they played a host of European sides. No MLS teams.

The MLS is attracting more attention than before following the signing of Lionel Messi. Imagine if they thought ahead and David Beckham struck a deal for a pre-season match with United instead of Ryan Reynolds. That would have been something worth paying for!

Premier League title odds

If Maguire does leave United, we think he can forget about winning the Premier League again, even though he achieved that feat previously as a member of Leicester City’s underdogs in 2016.

United’s season kick-starts with Wolves coming to Old Trafford on August 14 as Erik ten Hag’s side look to build on last season.

But will we achieve that? Back in the Champions League and expected to improve on last season’s third place finish. Not to forget how Ten Hag plans to continue winning trophies after ending a six-year drought for the Reds last term.

Man City are favourites to collect a sixth top-flight title in seven years having won the treble. More will be expected from Mikel Arteta as Arsenal improve their starting XI. Liverpool should be better. Chelsea too.
