Gary Neville dismisses claims about Glazer family abandoning sale

Reports that the Glazer family have pulled out of selling Manchester United has predictably sparked fury within the fanbase. Furthermore, it has been dismissed by former Manchester United captain turned pundit Gary Neville.

Manchester United fans have been waiting on updates regarding a potential takeover since November of last year, and fresh reports don’t bode well for the prospect of a takeover in the near future.

However, Neville believes the Glazers are “desperate” for investment despite a report from the Daily Mail suggesting they are ready to turn down bids from both Sheikh Jassim and Sir Jim Ratcliffe for the club.

“I don’t believe the Glazers are not selling/doing anything story,” Neville tweeted on Sunday morning.

“They have to do something. They’ve run out of money and the financial situation is desperate. They need investment in. They’re also having a toxic impact on the club from the inside out.

“The negligence continues for now but I don’t think it can go on without some action on raising funds. Also who would come in as a minority alongside them with the damage it would do to their reputation.”

Glazer raises valid points, but ultimately the takeover process remains a waiting game until the American family (or Raine Group) publicly announce otherwise.

The report in question stated that the Glazers plan to take United off the market before listing it for sale again in a few years’ time (maybe 2025). It is believed the Glazers want close to £10bn, which could be enough to frighten off bidders – especially Sir Jim Ratcliffe and INEOS.
