Manchester United fans have been hopeful that the Glazers will sell the club after 18-years of seeing our football club run abysmally by the American family. Now, reports suggests the club will be taken off the market.
The Glazers announced last November that they were open to investment and a potential sale of the club, but there are only two serious bidders in the race as well as a couple of hedge funds. They include Sheikh Jassim of Qatar and Sir Jim Ratcliffe.
According to the Daily Mail, the Glazers are going to take Manchester United off the market after failing to get close to their anticipated asking price.
This will undoubtedly anger fans and we can expect more protests from The 1958 in the future. A sit-in protest was held at Old Trafford last week as fans continued to echo their ‘Glazers Out’ message.
However, a source close to the Glazer family told The Mail that they won’t care about the backlash that will follow from a decision that will see them remain at the club: “The Glazers are thick-skinned and won’t be influenced by any negative fan reactions.”
The apparent logic being used by the Glazer family to take United off the market now is that they will try sell the club again in 2025, when they hope financial and ‘environmental’ factors may attract more bidders. They apparently believe the club could go for £7bn or £10bn at that stage, but we shouldn’t forget they’ve been wrong with their valuation this time around.
All of this could be true, but it could also be a threat to the current bidders that they either offer more money or step away from negotiations.
Neil Custis from The Sun suggested a week ago – for the second time – that Qatar had reached an agreement over the sale of the club, with an announcement expected in October.
How do we decide which report to believe?
