Crystal Palace announce Dean Henderson signing on long-term deal

Crystal Palace have confirmed the transfer of goalkeeper Dean Henderson from Manchester United.

The 26-year-old has signed a five-year deal with the Eagles, and he becomes their third signing of the summer after Jefferson Lerma and Matheus Franca.

Henderson was looking for an exit route out of Old Trafford all summer and he was made wait after a move to Nottingham Forest fell through.

Crystal Palace came calling and were able to convince Henderson to sign a long-term deal, with the entire package said to be worth £20 million to United.

Speaking to Crystal Palace media, chairman Steve Parish said: “Dean is a fantastic addition to our squad and goalkeeping unit. We have been long-term admirers of Dean’s, following his ascension through the ranks at Manchester United and England, but also his impressive achievements whilst on loan at Nottingham Forest and Sheffield United.”

Henderson added: “I’m absolutely delighted and buzzing to be here. I can’t wait to get started.

“This club has got great fans and has a lot of top players who are hungry to succeed. There’s something being built here, and I really want to be a part of it.”

Once upon a time, the United academy graduate was regarded as one of England’s finest goalkeepers. He made 29 appearances for the first team after emerging from the youth system.

On top of that, Henderson spent time on loan at Sheffield United and Forest in the top flight.

United are losing a good goalkeeper but Henderson needs to be playing regularly. That is not going to happen at United anytime soon.
