Denmark manager confirms Rasmus Hojlund will feature in internationals despite lack of action with United

Denmark national team manager, Kasper Hjumland, has provided an update on Rasmus Hojlund after calling him up to the squad for the September international break.

The 20-year-old will represent Denmark in their forthcoming UEFA Euro 2024 qualifying games, along with fellow Red Christian Eriksen.

Hojlund is yet to feature for Manchester United since signing for the club at the beginning of August, as a back injury ruled him out of the side’s opening fixtures of the season. He is, however, expected to make his debut when the Reds travel to London to take on Arsenal this Sunday, September 3.

Whether Hojlund will start the clash or make an appearance off-the-bench in the closing stages remains to be seen, as Erik ten Hag has seemingly been careful to not rush him into action – and he won’t want to throw him straight in the deep end either.

This is something that Hjumland is well aware of, but still opted to take the chance and call up the young striker. He told Bold.DK: “I’ve been in Manchester to watch Rasmus train and he’s in full gear, so he’ll probably be in the squad for the weekend. There is of course a caveat, and he must show that he is ready this week.”

Hjumland added while speaking to TV2 Sport: “I have been in Manchester and have some clear agreements with the club. He should preferably get some minutes so that we can see that he’s there.

“It’s evident that he is lacking in game time,” he added. “But he will be playing a part. We’ll have to observe his contributions.”
