Kevin De Bruyne rates Manchester United ‘creative machine’ higher than Odegaard and Maddison

Man City’s Kevin De Bruyne ranks Bruno Fernandes, Martin Odegaard and James Maddison in order of who he thinks is the best creative midfielder in the Premier League.

The Man City and Belgium midfielder, who is currently out of action for months due to injury, appeared on Sky Sports this week to rank a series of different topics from 1-3.

De Bruyne, 32, ranked Fernandes above Odegaard in his assessment.

“I think he’s a creative machine,” De Bruyne told Sky Sports when describing Fernandes. “Just in general.

“I think Odegaard is very creative, he’s a little more controlled, and then Maddison is also really creative but I need to see more of him in a big team. So that can change, but that’s why I put him number three.

“Being creative has a lot of different things around it. Creating chances, but also sometimes you can give somebody the ball and he shoots from 30 metres.

“It’s always different, but I think he’s always there. He takes a lot of risks, also, and I like it.

“And obviously he’s been doing really well, and he’s been doing it for a long time. Odegaard was amazing last year, but obviously he’s younger, and there’s a difference in that.”

Fernandes has been subject of criticism lately with pundits – such as Micah Richards – firing shots from the outside. There has been suggestions that he isn’t the right man to captain United and that he’s a liability when it comes to officials.

Hopefully, the Portugal international silences his critics this evening with a strong performance against Nottingham Forest.

It’s important to stress Fernandes is not the only player that we need to demand more from.
