Gary Neville predicts issues for Manchester United after substandard showing vs. Spurs

Gary Neville was far from impressed when watching Manchester United in action against Tottenham Hotspur on Saturday evening.

The Red Devils sustained a 2-0 loss in North London and looked substandard across the night in just their second outing of the new campaign.

Two second-half goals, one of which came as an own-goal from Lisandro Martinez, ended United’s winning streak at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium and gave Ange Postecoglou his first three points in the dugout.

Fans were quick to take to social media to voice their concerns over the squad, with one prominent factor being the midfield.

Casemiro, Bruno Fernandes and Mason Mount appeared off the pace when deployed from the start – something that Neville also picked up on when commentating on the clash.

He said on Sky Sports: “Casemiro looks lost in midfield in these first two matches. What’s clear is that Manchester United’s midfield needs bolstering. Ten Hag wants a number six who can play alongside Casemiro and at the moment the club can’t get players out to be able to fund that.

“If they look at the first two weeks, they have to fund it or there will be big problems. What’s clear is that Ten Hag doesn’t want to revert back to Scott McTominay.”
