Manchester United in talks with Benjamin Pavard

Benjamin Pavard could be on his way out of Munich before the transfer window shuts.

Bayern Munich fans will be asking themselves whether France international Benjamin Savard will stay in Bavaria, or will he end up moving elsewhere?

The defender’s current contract is set to expire in June 2024, so the Bundesliga champions will want to avoid a situation where he walks on a free transfer next summer.

According to Tz’s Philipp Kessler, Pavard wants to leave Bayern before the transfer deadline, even though Thomas Tuchel has made it clear he wants the versatile defender to remain at the club.

The journalist adds that discussions are already taking place with Manchester United over a move, while West Ham work on securing a transfer for Harry Maguire.

Kessler’s tweet read (translated by Twitter): “Benjamin Pavard still wants to leave #FCBayern. Discussions are already taking place with Manchester United held on a move. Fittingly, West Ham are working on a transfer from Harry Maguire.”

United have already agreed a deal with West Ham for Maguire, so it’s over to the player to agree terms with the London club.

Meanwhile, Sky Sport Germany reporter Florian Plettenberg has added weight to the claims by suggesting United could sign Pavard from Bayern.

For United, it’s important that United find a suitable replacement for Maguire – and that could mean signing a versatile defender who can play full-back and centre-back like Pavard.

According to Transfermarkt, Pavard is valued at €40m, but United should be able to get him for less if he’s pushing for a move with one year left on his current deal.

One of Pavard’s career highlights was his stunning strike against Argentina at the 2018 World Cup.
