Rasmus Hojlund speaks for the first time as a Manchester United player

Rasmus Hojlund was unveiled as Manchester United’s third signing of the summer earlier on Saturday, with Erik ten Hag finally landing the striker he was looking for.

Ten Hag was desperate to add a forward to the squad and Hojlund was the Dutchman’s prime target to fill that position going into the summer.

United have now landed all three of their principal targets this summer, having identified Mason Mount and Andre Onana as perfect additions earlier in the summer.

Hojlund sustained an injury during pre-season with Atalanta and is not available for selection just yet but his first appearance at Old Trafford was one to be remembered as he was paraded before the friendly against Lens.

The announcement of his arrival was made just before kick-off against Lens and now, he has spoken for the first time as a United player.

“It is no secret that I have been a fan of this great club since I was a small boy, and I dreamed of walking out at Old Trafford as a Manchester United player,” Hojlund is quoted as saying on the official Manchester United website.

“I am incredibly excited by this opportunity to turn that dream into a reality, and I am determined to repay the faith that the club has shown in me. It is still early in my career, but I know that I am ready to make this step up and play with this group of world-class players.

“Once I had spoken to the manager, I knew that this environment would be perfect for my development. I am relishing the opportunity to work with one of the best coaches in the world. Under his guidance and support, I know that I am capable of achieving great things together with my new team-mates at this special club.”

Hojlund’s injury absence, which is expected to be a brief one, may be a blessing in disguise as he will be offered the chance to settle into new environments ahead of a gruelling season.

In terms of additional incomings, it is believed that United must sell in order to make more big-money signings. There is interest in Fred, Scott McTominay and Harry Maguire from Premier League clubs, whilst Real Sociedad are courting Donny van de Beek.

United kick off their Premier League campaign in nine days against Wolverhampton, with Ten Hag’s men facing one more pre-season test against Athletic Club before beginning preparations.
