Manchester United launch bid to sign another goalkeeper

Manchester United are active in this summer’s transfer market despite making just two signings so far. Rasmus Hojlund, the Atalanta star, is expected to be unveiled imminently and Jonny Evans could sign for the club on a free transfer.

Fiorentina midfielder Sofyan Amrabat is another player who has been heavily linked with a move and the Moroccan international could join the club if there are midfield departures before the end of the window.

So far, only Mason Mount and Andre Onana have completed switches to Old Trafford and the latter could be getting some competition sooner rather than later.

There are no guarantees that Dean Henderson will remain at the club past this summer and it is now being reported that United are eyeing a fresh face to play cover for Onana between the goalposts.

That’s according to Turkish outlet CNN Turk, via Turkish Football, who say that United are interested in young Turkish goalkeeper Altay Bayindir from Fenerbahce.

As per the report, United have lodged an official move to sign the 25-year-old and the goalkeeper’s entourage is now in talks with the Old Trafford club.

Bayindir is said to have four more years remaining on his contract with the Turkish giants but reportedly has a €6m release clause. It is yet unclear whether United are ready to trigger that clause to try to sign Bayindir for less.

Following the controversial exit of David de Gea, Nathan Bishop recently became the latest goalkeeper to leave Old Trafford. With Henderson’s future still up in the air, Ten Hag has been reluctant to let Tom Heaton leave the club.

Heaton has been the subject of interest from newly-promoted Luton Town but as things stand, he will start the season as Onana’s backup.
