Andre Onana awaits first Old Trafford outing this weekend, says he’s ‘very excited’

Andre Onana is set to take his position between the sticks at Old Trafford for the first-ever time this Saturday.

That’s dependent on Erik ten Hag, of course, as Manchester United face two games in two days this weekend; the first is against RC Lens on August 5 at home, while Sunday’s is against Athletic Club at the Aviva Stadium in Dublin, Ireland.

This means that the manager may opt to deploy a youthful side for one of the fixtures and the senior squad for another, or he could use a mixture of all Reds across the two games.

Either way, Onana will feature, and he’s awaiting his first outing at the Theatre of Dreams.

His official debut won’t come until August 14 when United kick off their 2023/2024 Premier League campaign against Wolverhampton Wanderers, but he has made two appearances already in pre-season since making the move from Inter Milan.

He spoke with MUTV ahead of the final friendlies of the summer and was asked how he was feeling regarding his first home experience.

“I’m very excited, but like I’ve said, we are the biggest club in England. We are one of the biggest clubs in the world, so everything is about winning. We have to start to win things and prizes.

“We have to fight for everything and we are ready,” Onana continued. “I know if we keep working hard, how we are doing now, everything will be right.”
