Andre Onana undergoes medical at Manchester United ahead of transfer

Manchester United are edging ever closer to making their second signing of the summer after agreeing a deal to sign Inter goalkeeper Andre Onana following lengthy negotiations with the Italian giants.

Erik ten Hag was keen on signing a new goalkeeper after stalling on giving the green light for David de Gea to extend his contract, with that ultimately culminating in the Spaniard’s exit after 12 years at the club.

It has now been widely reported that Onana is on the brink of completing his move to United and thus securing a reunion with Ten Hag after the pair worked together at Ajax.

The Cameroon international even teased supporters earlier on Wednesday, discussing the move and referring to Ten Hag as a ‘master’.

Now, just minutes before United face Lyon in their second pre-season friendly, it is being reported that Onana is currently undergoing his medical before a move can be finalised.

That’s according to Sky Sports, as seen above. It’s claimed that after everything has been completed and signed, Onana will make the trip to join the rest of the squad in the United States to take part in pre-season.

Onana is, however, unlikely to be on the same flight as the rest of the squad and will instead travel later this week on his own.

SN’s verdict…
It’s never easy replacing a player who has been a mainstay in the side for 12 years but Ten Hag knows Onana well and it was absolutely paramount to get him in before the start of the pre-season tour.

Onana is a completely different profile to De Gea and supporters will be excited to see how United’s build-up play changes with the former Barcelona academy star between the goalposts.
