21-year-old Manchester United defender expected to leave on loan this summer

Manchester United defender Teden Mengi is mulling over his options for the forthcoming season.

According to Manchester Evening News, the 21-year-old is expected to leave Old Trafford on loan for the 2023/2024 campaign and is garnering interest from clubs in England and across Europe.

The report adds that Mengi was set to complete a mid-season loan move in January but after sustaining a training injury during United’s warm-weather camp in December, any potential deal fell through.

Mengi’s breakthrough to senior football

Mengi made his senior debut under Ole Gunnar Solskjaer in 2020 during a Europa League clash and made one further appearance the following year in a Champions League tie against Young Boys at Old Trafford.

He has completed loans with Championship sides Birmingham City and Derby County, so whether his next step will be a Premier League side or one outside of English football remains to be seen.

With his contract set to expire in 2024, his next spell will be pivotal to his future as a United player.
