Premier League club hoping to sign Man Utd star as Ten Hag closes in on De Gea replacement

Manchester United have some work to do in the transfer market this summer and the goalkeeper department is becoming an urgent matter.

Going into the window, it was clear that United had a number of issues in that area they needed to address but in truth, the expectation was that David de Gea would be penning a new two-year deal.

Instead, he left the club after 12 years and Dean Henderson, one of three senior goalkeepers at the club, wants to leave to join Nottingham Forest after spending the 2022/23 season on loan at the City Ground.

Tom Heaton, who was signed by Ole Gunnar Solskjaer in 2021 to add much-needed experience to the squad, is now being targetted by another Premier League club.

That’s according to The Sun, who say that newly-promoted Luton Town are hoping to sign the former Aston Villa and Burnley star.

As per the report, Luton are hoping to receive the green light from United to sign Heaton but as things stand, a move cannot be sanctioned as the Reds have not signed a replacement for either Heaton or De Gea.

Heaton has one year remaining on his contract at United and he is unlikely to be the first-choice shot-stopper at either of the clubs.

Onana, who worked with Ten Hag at Ajax, is believed to be closing in on a reunion with the Dutchman as United look to wrap up negotiations with Inter.

Earlier this week, it was reported that progress had been made on a deal to sign Onana after drawn-out talks were held with Inter.

United leave for their pre-season tour of the United States on Wednesday and Ten Hag will be hoping to have his man through the doors by then.

The Reds will take on Olympique Lyon in a friendly in Scotland first, however. Some of the returning first-team stars could feature in that game, with Casemiro and Marcus Rashford among those to return to training on Saturday.
