Mainoo 9, Mount 8: player ratings from Manchester United 2-0 Leeds United

Manchester United are off to the perfect start in this summer’s pre-season campaign as the intense fixture schedule started with a comfortable 2-0 win over newly-relegated Leeds United.

The two sides faced each other in Oslo on Wednesday afternoon, with Erik ten Hag naming a strong starting eleven before replacing all players at half-time.

Mason Mount made his maiden appearance for the Reds whilst Lisandro Martinez made his highly anticipated return to the side after having his season cut short in April.

Mount was among United’s best performers, playing in a slightly deeper midfield role, with youngster Hannibal Mejbri occupying the more advanced position.

The former Chelsea star formed a partnership alongside promising 18-year-old Kobbie Mainoo, who was arguably United’s best player on the pitch.

Man United Player Ratings

Tom Heaton – 7
Barely had anything to do but adopted the sweeper-keeper role brilliantly.

Aaron Wan-Bissaka – 7
Reminded us of how good his timing is when he goes in for a tackle.

Raphael Varane – 7
Calm as ever.

Lisandro Martinez – 7
Good to see him back on the pitch.

Alvaro Fernandez – 8
If he keeps performing like that, he might give Ten Hag something to think about.

Kobbie Mainoo – 9
Controlled and never looked out of place. Could be exactly what United need.

Mason Mount – 8
His creativity from deep was an instant hit. He will be a good addition.

Amad Diallo – 7
Had a number of chances to shoot and potentially score but took one too many touches. Looked good.

Hannibal Mejbri – 8
Will be gutted not to have come out of the game with a goal but he made one stunning goal-saving block.

Omari Forson – 7
Played on the left-hand side and can be happy with his performance.

Jadon Sancho – 7
Played through the middle as the side’s lone striker – an unfamiliar role. Most importantly, he looked fit and raring to go.

Substitutes

Matej Kovar – 7
Played with fine margins with some of his risky passes but looked very comfortable.

Marc Jurado – 8
Caught a few eyes with that cameo. With the right-back position still up for grabs, he could be one to look out for.

Will Fish – 7
Assured and composed. Good performance.

Rhys Bennett – 7
Almost scored a dream goal with the very last touch of the ball – what a moment that would have been!

Brandon Williams – 7
One of the more experienced players coming on and did well.

Isak Hansen-Aaroen – 7
Another youngster with a fine performance.

Daniel Gore – 7
Calm and composed.

Shola Shoretire – 7
Will be hoping for more opportunities on this tour.

Charlie Savage – 7
Made a name for himself last year, he will be hoping to build on that this year.

Noam Emeran – 9
Can’t ask for more in a 45-minute cameo. Scored the winning goal and set up the second. Dream day.

Joe Hugill – 8
Excellent finish to put the game to bed.
