Manchester United still hopeful of beating Barcelona to Brazilian wonderkid Vitor Roque

The Brazilians are running out of patience with Barcelona.

Barcelona seemed to be making headway on signing Brazilian starlet Vitor Roque from Athletico Paranaense.

But a spanner has been thrown into the works with Roque’s current club getting impatient and demanding that everything gets resolved quickly.

Manchester United know already how difficult it is to deal with Barcelona, under pressure financially, and a club renowned for leaking information to the press in a bid to manipulate situations. Just research the Frenkie de Jong to Manchester United saga from twelve months ago. It wasn’t pretty and I am relieved we’ve signed a midfielder this summer without spending over 100 days chasing his signature when our quest was doomed to start with…

According to Mundo Deportivo, Athletico Paranaense have warned Barcelona they are running out of time to send through signed contracts and close the deal. That would suggest they’ve set a deadline of their own.

A deal for Roque, 18, has been agreed, but if Barcelona don’t get the paperwork in order it has been suggested that the club could look at other proposals for the forward.

This had led to speculation that there are plenty of other clubs keen on Roque and prepared to hijack Barcelona’s attempts to sign him.

Diario Sport reckon that United, Paris Saint-Germain and Chelsea are also interested and could move for Roque if Barcelona don’t get a deal done in time.

I would be pleasantly surprised if United started to look at the South American market for potential gems like Roque. Instead, we let them come to Europe and show interest after their value hits the roof.

United should be ahead of the curve and we need young forwards, too.
