David de Gea’s stunning 12-year stay at Manchester United has come to an end after the Spaniard confirmed his departure from the club earlier on Saturday.

De Gea was believed to be in talks to sign a new deal at the club but an agreement was never reached and he has now left the club as a free agent.

United now need to sign a replacement and Andre Onana, the Inter Milan goalkeeper, has been heavily linked with a transfer after an impressive season with the Italian giants.

Onana falls into the category of players Erik ten Hag has worked with before, having already signed a number of players he is familiar with from earlier in his career. Now, it is being reported that De Gea’s replacement has already been lined up.

That’s according to Daily Mail reporter Chris Wheeler, as seen above, who claims that United are now set to sign Onana next week, having bridged the valuation gap and reached an agreement with Inter Milan.

Onana, 27, emerged as one of Europe’s leading goalkeepers last season as he helped his side into the Champions League final and now, he looks set to be taking his skills to Old Trafford.

Ten Hag has been looking for a goalkeeper to assist his side with moving the ball from the first third, with De Gea’s distribution being one of the areas Ten Hag has been looking for an improvement in.

United leave for the start of their pre-season tour next week and Ten Hag would be delighted to have at least one more signing on the plane, with Mason Mount already booking his place after sealing his move from Chelsea earlier this week.
