Jose Mourinho reaches out to Mason Greenwood and offers Roma lifeline

Roma manager Jose Mourinho has reportedly reached out and made contact with Mason Greenwood amid his uncertain future at Manchester United.

After a female alleged Greenwood, 21, had physically and sexually abused her via social media at the beginning of last year, the English forward has not played competitively since. However, following a lack of evidence, all charges, including one of attempted rape, have since been dropped with the 21-year-old now free to resume his day-to-day activities.

Consequently, United must decide on what to do with their number 11; reintegrate him into the first team, loan him out or move him on permanently – a final decision has yet to be made.

However, according to a recent report from The Sun, former Manchester United and Chelsea boss Mourinho recently phoned Greenwood and spoke with him, as well as with his father.

Not only did the Portuguese tactician offer his support to the suspended striker, but he is also believed to have promised him a ‘second chance’ if the Red Devils do decide to part ways with him.

A source is reported to have said: “Jose rang Mason’s dad and also spoke with Mason. He told him the best way out of his current situation is to start playing football — and that eventually all the hassle will fade away.

“Mason was pleased that he got in touch and it has lifted his spirits.

“He wants to get back playing and is just waiting for United to tell him what the future holds.”
